Riverside Motors Volvo recently pledged £200 towards a university student’s trip to the 6th World University Rugby Sevens Championships in Brazil.
The Volvo dealership, located at Saxon Road, backed scrum half and former captain of Worcester Bianca Blackburn, 20, after hearing about her trip through father, Mark Blackburn, a long-standing customer of the dealership.
Bianca, who originally resides in Hull but studies BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching at the University of Gloucestershire, and her team mates represented the Great Britain British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Women’s Sevens team, taking on international universities from across the globe in Brazil.
The Great Britain Women finished fourth after a semi-final defeat against Canada, but staged a dramatic comeback in their quarter final against Japan – coming from 10-0 down to win 14-10.
Bianca commented: “To be able to represent my university at a world championship on an international level was a very special experience and something I will remember for a very long time.
“I’m very grateful to Riverside Volvo for their donation as the funds raised for my trip were crucial to my attendance in Brazil, as without them, I simply couldn’t go!”
Lee Fothergill, General Manager at Riverside Volvo added: “The Blackburn’s have been coming to Riverside for years and are very valued customers of ours so we were more than happy to sponsor Bianca’s trip to Brazil. It’s such an impressive feat for someone of a young age and we wish Bianca all the best for the future of her sporting career and we look forward to following her progress.”
