Earth Day

Earth Day

Today is Earth Day, a day to demonstrate support for environmental protection, this year, to demonstrate our support we thought about what means the Earth to us, and how necessary it is to protect our environment for future generations to come.

This photo album means the world to me (and my partner, Hannah!) because it documents the first few weeks and months of my daughter's life, with some memorable pictures. In the modern world with instant photography accessible through smart phones, it's nice to have a permanent, physical memento of an extremely exciting and enjoyable time of my life. It's also a scary reminder of how quickly time can pass you by.

I have known this for some time, yet the fact London breached its annual air pollution limits within the first week of 2016 is staggering. I'm not sure many, including myself, were aware of how the largely invisible, poisonous gases have a detrimental effect to those working and living in the capital on a day-to-day basis.

This is my little stone. It means 'safe travel' and was given to me by my best friend 15 years ago. I've worn it every day since apart from two or three times and on each occasion, something truly awful has happened. It may just be coincidence and hear say, but I won't risk it and genuinely won't go anywhere without it.

Something you didn't know about climate change: A widespread switch to #vegetarianism would cut #emissions by nearly two-thirds. In three decades, emissions related to agriculture and food production are likely to account for about half of the world's available "carbon budget" http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/mar/21/eat-less-meat-vegetarianism-dangerous-global-warming

These are all treasured mementoes of what means the world to me - and in fact the reason why participating in World Earth Day is so important – my daughter Lillie. These are all from my box of memories. The beautiful heart drawing – 'I love you very much Mum' – was probably one of the first works of art from Lillie (note the drawing of me in the middle) that was a spontaneous gesture of love. I love the fact she tried to draw a heart and the kisses around the outside. There are a few Mother's Day gifts scattered around – all a bit tatty now, however I cannot bear to every throw them away. The little photo of Lillie in dressing up clothes lives by my bed and is the last image I see before I go to sleep. I love the cuteness and the reminder that once upon a time she dressed up as a princess – this was taken in the garden of her childhood friend Lucy. The first ever pictures of my Lillie are her scans – we were only allowed one scan in those days, and it was one of the most emotional times I've ever experienced to hear her heartbeat for the first time and see her cute little profile. I remember her Dad and I just gazing at these scans in amazement – it felt very real at that point – a memory that stays with me today.

It is so important to preserve our beautiful world for the future generations. Since having Lillie (now nearly 18) I have become so much more conscious of acting in a responsible way. I love the beauty of my surroundings and want to make sure that I don't tarnish the jewel that is our earth for my daughter and her children.

This is my world – the two people who brought me into it in the first place. This is my favourite photo of them and it sits above my bed as a reminder of how lucky I am to have them as my role models.

My fact about global warming: Leonardo Di Caprio cares about it, so therefore I do too ;)

My monkey Monty has been in my life since December 1979. He was my first and favourite teddy and he has been with me for 36 years. He looks a little battered and bruised but well loved!

My other two items are two charm bracelets. One from my lovely other half; Aaron, so it is very special, he often buys me new charms to add to it. The other one was given to me when I was bridesmaid for my lovely friend Victoria, it came with three charms and I've added to it with charms Aaron has given me since. Most of my jewellery is costume jewellery, so these two bracelets are very precious to me.

The Earth is the densest planet in the Solar System - This varies according to the part of the planet; for example, the metallic core is denser than the crust. The average density of the Earth is approximately 5.52 grams per cubic centimetre. (source: http://space-facts.com/earth/)

My bracelets are something that I wear every day to remind myself of all of the people who are important in my life.

The green friendship bracelet is from my little sister, Annabel. Annabel and I have worn these bracelets every day for years; my brother and sister are my best friends and mean the absolute world to me, I know that as long as we have each other, we can take on anything together.

My black bracelet is a treasured gift from children who I used to teach drama and singing to, although it is not very expensive, it is very sentimental.

My silver bracelet is a gift from my friend Ross, who I have known for even longer than I have known my brother and sister! It means the world to have a friend who I have grown up with, we face every new challenge life presents together (while also cringing at our baby photos).

The friendship bracelet on the right is from a close family friends Barbados trip, I have seen their youngest daughter grow up and think of their mum as a second mother, she is always there to give advice and help tidy up after house parties when my mum is on holiday!

There are 7500,000,000,000,000,000 grains of sand on the Earth. For every grain of sand, there are 10,000 stars in the universe.

What means the world to me? My family.

Not an item per say, but this photo can be called an item, so that is my item that means the world to me! It was taken at a wedding during last summer and it was just a lovely day. I know everyone will say this, but we really do all get on so well with each other and it's very easy being from this family. I think this has come from my parents and what I have learnt from them. Although my parents aren't together, they still get on so well and it's taught me that although some things don't work out, such as a relationship, it isn't the end. My sister's ok I guess…

My climate change fact/did you know

Climate change WILL displace 250 million people by 2050. If global warming continues at the same rate, this IS going to happen. With the world already over populated in places, where are all of these people going to go? Scary times ahead, the world needs to act now!

Each member of my family brings a different yet amazing aspect to us, which make us whole. I don't know anyone that does as much for others as my mum, without a doubt the strongest, most amazing and selfless woman I know- my absolute idol. As for my dad, you really can't get better, I've never known a man to work so hard, he deserves every success he gets in life because he works extremely hard for my family and aims to give us three girls everything. I look up to him in every aspect in life; I'm a complete daddy's girl.

Where my two sisters are involved it's hard for me to sum them up because unless you know them you will never understand just how incredible these two girls are, the most beautiful, inspirational girls I've ever had the pleasure to know in my life. My best friends.

Happy World Earth day, to the four people that are my entire world! #WorldEarthDay

If you drilled a tunnel straight through the Earth and jumped in, it would take you about 42 minutes to get to the other side.

While no longer with us, Topsy, my family's gorgeous tortoiseshell cat, made such a big impact on our home life that I wanted to share her photo. Topsy was one of the family for over 10 years and was a source of companionship for us all during that time whether she decide to take a nap on your lap or kindly waking us up in the middle of the night wanting some food or a cuddle. Pets can be a huge importance to family life, and growing up with Topsy has given me some memories that I will always cherish!

My climate change fact/did you know

Despite being called Earth, only 29% of the surface is actually 'earth.' The rest of the planet's surface (71%) is made up of water.
