8th October was a big day in our house, @doublewoo turned 40. FORTY! Yikes.......obviously I am a lot younger than him, before anyone says anything!
So to treat the old boy I took him to Artichoke in Amersham for a slap-up birthday dinner, Michelin-starred style.
The restaurant itself is pretty unassuming with classic, neutral decor – simple but modern and clean. And lots of extremely attentive staff – although they were not intrusive in any way.
Drinks were chosen and bread brought to the table. Two different types, a brown ale bread, which was delicious but nothing compared to the bacon and thyme focaccia rolls....oh my god, we thought we’d died and gone to heaven – great start!
Perusing the menu took some time but in the end we opted for the following:
Starters: foie gras & quail
Mains: venison & wild turbot
Puds: chocolate mousse & strawberry galette
Followed by: Fresh mint tea/ coffee and petit fours
The birthday boy also had individual wines to wash down each course and enjoyed the pairings immensely – the sommelier was both attentive and knowledgeable.
Another from the Map of Fun ticked off and definitely one to re-visit, especially seeing as it is only five miles from home!
I can’t wait to go back!
I’ve discovered they do company team building days so perhaps we should go for a Nobull challenge, although most of us would definitely prefer eating the delicious dishes rather than attempting to prepare them!
Next foodie stop is afternoon tea at Stoke Park, watch this space.....
