Last month I took my first steps into the world of agency communications and it proved a very refreshing step. Here’s my initial impressions…
Having sat on the opposite side of the ‘PR fence’ for many years as an editor across multiple publications within the automotive collision repair industry, I have been privy to a fair bit of PR activity in my time. From the simple, emailed bullet point list (direct from the news source) right through to the all singing, all dancing five-star media trip (courtesy of multiple communication/marketing teams) I have been privileged to experience how communications work at a multitude of levels.
However, these past few weeks have just gone to prove the quote attributed to ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, ‘the more you know, the more you know you don’t know’. It therefore goes without saying that the learning curve has been steep but I genuinely feel like I’ve hit the ‘refresh’ button on my career and it’s exciting.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I loved being an editor and the people I worked with and I am not naïve enough to see everything through rose tinted glasses, but joining Nobull has given me the opportunity to see and experience the world from a different perspective. I’m starting to understand the agency whats, whys and wherefores and I’m thoroughly enjoying it.
Moreover, I’ve been welcomed with open arms; my new team mates have openly shared knowledge and insight; I’m learning (lots); I’m having fun; and, I have to say, it already feels a bit like ‘home’. If these elements create the recipe for career success, then I think I’m on a ‘winner’.
Crucially, I feel ‘refreshed’ which I can highly recommend, and I simply can’t wait to really get going.
