 | | One of the best lessons I have learnt whilst organising events is the eagerness of hotels the first two weeks after New Year to get people into their hotel at any price. Faced with launching two minor facelifted vehicles in early January in the cold and rain I decided that we either can the launch or take it somewhere warm. I had had my eye on the Hotel Residencia on the west coast of Majorca for years and thought now was the time to give them a call. Please can I have 150 rooms over a 10 day period, and by the way we will be parking 25 cars in your car park? The answer was just what I wanted to hear, yes you can and they will be £45 each inclusive of breakfast. The end result was that it was cheaper to ship out 40 cars by road and fly 120 journalists out to Majorca for the launch than do it in the UK at a half decent hotel. More importantly the sun was shining and the journalists felt so full of bonhemie they wrote wonderful things about the relatively unimportant cars. However, since the introduction of the Euro you may have to look further afield to get this sort of value again from a Mediterranean country. | |||||||
