 | | I’ve worked on hundreds of events over the years, but the experience that makes me smile (although it didn’t at the time) was the Peugeot 4007 Cool Camping event in a field in July 2007, during the worst summer on record! It rained every day, although somehow the sun managed to always shine when the first guest arrived – hallelujah! Team spirit prevailed, but sleep didn’t. The team and I were up until the early hours preparing the luxury tents (including changing bed linen for the double beds the guests slept in each night), managing to catch forty winks before rising again at dawn. One morning I was up at 5am, listening to the lions roar (we were in Longleat), and holding a piece of hosepipe onto an outside tap to fill up the water tanks in the posh portable loos. Although it wasn’t raining, I was still wearing my clothes from the night before and my rather fetid welly boots, which eventually resulted in me getting Trench Foot because my socks were always damp from crawling in and out of tents, cleaning floors as I went without footwear (mud everywhere and not particularly glorious!). I hadn’t eaten for about 24 hours and hadn’t managed to have a shower (no I didn’t smell!). The camaraderie and overall success of the event made up for all the pain and I am happy to report that my feet are no longer shedding skin on a daily basis! (Best diet ever though – I lost a stone in one week) | ||||||||
